Female Undercover Officers... One Damn Tough Job!!!

The Street Level Female Undercover Officer

Some of my favorite conferences to speak at are the female undercover schools.  Why you ask?  Because I don’t have to fight through the testosterone, they call you on your crap and they’re much more engaging than their male counterparts.  The female UC’s are also faced with different challenges than their male counterparts too.  I often hear administrators say that the female UC’s are treated the same as men.  I don’t buy that for a second and administrators if that’s what you’re telling people, STOP!!!

Hollywood and television portray the female undercover officer in sexy lingerie, sipping high end liquor in very high class settings.  This could not be further from the truth.  It is down and dirty street level crime…  In the gutter with things you can’t even imagine.

Recently at one of these conferences, two separate schools were running at the same time separating the genders.  There’s a good reason for this, the females have different challenges to overcome and you need more time to concentrate on those challenges that would not be addressed in a joint conference.

Rescue Team Wellness

Sgt. Mark St. Hilaire - Rescue Team Wellness

Recently I had the honor to present at the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) 2015 Conference in Chicago.  This year’s conference brought close to 800 law enforcement and military professionals and trainers from around the world.

This year, Safe Call Now® was included in the 6 days of the best training on topics of self-defense, tactical training, legal issues, and inter-personal communications.  The topic that has expanded over the past several years is officer health and wellness.  Capt. Brian Nanavaty who is the Education Director for Safe Call Now® and a well-respected member of ILEETA did a great job educating our peers about Safe Call Now® along with members of his staff from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Office of Professional Development and Police Wellness. The Advisory Board of ILEETA created booth space in the conference exposition hall for Safe Call Now®. A special thanks to ILEETA’s Director, Harvey Hedden for this opportunity.

Sin City Baby... When "Life" gets out of balance...

By Sean Riley - President & Founder Safe Call Now®

You’ve all heard the saying before… “Sin City”…  “Anything Goes”…  “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas”…  I’m not sure about that but I do know it is the city where I got married, where I got my first opportunity to Keynote and that I’m here about 10 times a year.  This is a city that can be cruel, it can bankrupt you, tear families apart, it caters to all addictions known to mankind and will chew you up and spit you out and laugh all the way to the bank.  Almost a metaphor for the first responder profession.  We eat our own!!!

It’s a city of all or nothing.  First responders can kind of be an “all or nothing” type of population.  We work hard and we play hard, always has been the mantra.  That work hard and play hard attitude can push us to the extremes.  I lived on the extremes through 23 years of addictions.  It was a horrible way to live, either in total fear or total bliss.
